I found this photo not long ago of Pam Cox skateboarding in both the Newport News Daily Press (August 22, 1978, p.3) and Culpeper Star Exponent (September 2, 1978, p.3) based out of Virigina. The photo was taken by Kenneth Silver and Pam was obviously living it up, dialed into the radio with her headset on, and skateboarding down the sidewalks of Newport News.
I really like her energy and am secretly hoping that Clyde Singleton and Tony Hawk might consider championing the search for Pam, like they did with Shaunda Shane!!
I’ve acquired a mass of skateboarding-related newspaper clippings from throughout the decades, and it is sadly a rarity for photos featuring black women skateboarders, so celebration is due!
I hope you’re out there Pam because you were ruling on that skateboard!
