About

Natalie Porter – founder of Womxn Skate History.

  • I live and write with gratitude on the traditional lands of the Tla’amin First Nation.
  • I began skateboarding in 1995 and in 2003, I wrote the first academic thesis from the perspective of women skaters called Female Skateboarders and Their Negotiation of Space and Identity.
  • I’ve written a variety of articles, essays, and interviews on related topics found in this list of publications, and continue to skate today.
  • I’m currently a Skateboarding Advisory Board member with the Smithsonian Museum.
  • I have been a librarian since 2009, including Branch Head of the Carnegie Library in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside (2014-2018).

Thank you! As this is a passion project, I’m always grateful for support and contributions to cover costs for this website and my research.
