In May 1986, Sharonda Harris cruised down Oak Street in Vineland, New Jersey on her skateboard and a photo of her by Barry Solof was published in the Cumberland County newspaper based out of Bridgeton. I’m pretty confident that this is Sharonda Harris-Bunton, who would go on to open a Vegan restaurant called “Vegans Are Us” in her hometown of Vineland, which is now closed.

An online article from a local newspaper called Daily Journal (November 27, 2019) noted that, Sharonda had graduated from Vineland High School in 1995, and stated, “I have a lot of history with health and wellness, and that truly is my passion.” Sharonda also had a career in modeling and acting but decided that she wanted to dedicate herself to fitness, nutrition, and veganism since her parents and two sisters passed away from health-related problems and dietary decisions.
Check out Sharonda’s Instagram page for health and fitness inspiration, along with vegan-eating tutorials. Would love to know how Sharonda was introduced to skateboarding and if she ever knew Stephanie Person, who also valued skateboarding and fitness and was representing black female skaters in the 1980s as well. I hope you’re doing well Sharonda!
