Cover Reveal

It’s cover reveal time for Girl Gangs, Zines, and Powerslides: a history of badass women skateboarders thanks to ECW Press. I enjoyed the design process, working with Jessica Albert and my editor Jen Sookfong Lee who were receptive to my feedback. And I’m just so stoked on the final graphic with a nod to Equal Time zine from the late 80s and early 90s edited by Lynn Kramer and JoAnn Gillespie, which featured Stephanie Person and Anita Tessensohn on the covers! It’s like their photos are wheat-pasted onto an alley wall, merging with graffiti. So sweet.

The actual publication day is September 16th but please consider pre-ordering. I would be eternally grateful. ECW Press is an indie Canadian publisher, and I know pre-ordering helps to get a sense of the interest.

Here’s the link, which includes a variety of book retailers and Shop Local for independent bookstores. Plus, I encourage everyone to “suggest a purchase” to their local library to improve accessibility. There will also be an eBook and Audiobook option to choose from in the near future.

The book is chock full of fantastic skateboarders, zines, and history, with anecdotes and musings from yours truly. It’s been a thirty-year dream in the making, and I hope that I’ve been able to honour this rich history and all the wonderful people who’ve supported this project.

Special shout-out to my early readers who are providing kind and insightful blurbs: Cole Nowicki, Kyle Beachy, Annie Guglia, Betsy Gordon, Indigo Willing, and Amy Mattes. You are the best!
