Skate and celebrate

Happy Go Skateboarding Day and Indigenous People’s Day!

Fun fact… Trevor Adolph of the Xaxli’p First Nation won the Canadian Nationals in the 12 and under amateur boys in both 1980 and 1981. He was celebrated in the September 1980 issue of Indian World where it was written that the contest was held in Burnaby and North Vancouver (Aug. 25-29) and even after missing the first day, he took first in half-pipe, 2nd in the downhill and 3rd in the freestyle bowl riding event at Seylynn.

“Trevor has been skateboarding for three years for East Vancouver Skates. His older brother is also a skateboarder. To round out the fast moving group is Trevor’s younger brother, who at the ripe old age of four years, has decided to take up the sport as well.”

Here’s hoping there was a sister who also skated!

There’s also acknowledgment of Trevor from 1981 skating mini-ramp in Richmond at the Great Canadian Open… I think there’s a clip of him, too:

Respect to Trevor and his family!
