Slow Impact 2024

In just over a week, I’ll be flying down to Arizona to be part of the Slow Impact skateboard festival conference event in Tempe, February 16-19! I’ve got a lightning talk for your enjoyment called, “Female and Non-Binary Skateboarding Zines of the 1980s and 1990s: a skater librarian’s methodical f**k you to archival silence.” Decided to show my true colours as a feisty, rogue librarian. Should be fun!

The panels and talks will be held at the Arizona Bouldering Project, located at 2626 S Hardy Drive, Tempe AZ. And there’s a free bus service (with a short skate down Hardy Dr.) to get you there.

The lightning talks start at 9am on Saturday, February 17 (that’s when I’ll be up), so make sure to be there bright and early. Plus, I’ve got a sweet Zine on Zines: 1980s & 1990s skate zines by women & non-binary skaters to giveaway to folks who attend.

There’s so many highlights and interesting talks! “Sober Skaters” panel with Kristin Ebeling of Skate Like a Girl, “Skateboarding and Palestine” hosted by Ruba Akkad, Mess Skate Mag release party, multiple events with Ted Barrow related to architecture, readings with Kyle Beachy, art and film exhibits, etc. And, of course, skateboarding in the Arizona sunshine!

See you there, and if you can’t attend, but would like a PDF of the zine send me a message, and I’ll email it for you to print up, fold, and enjoy.
