I first wrote about PJ McKenzie (Pam Judge) back in May 2022 after sourcing just a few photos of her online, and then stumbling upon a few more through newspaper databases. Once I realized that she was Canada’s first female skateboarding champion (back in 1977 / 1978), I knew that I had to meet her!

As a result of my trip to Kaslo, BC over the 2023 Canada Day long weekend, I’ve now updated that post, and was especially excited to know that she had kept almost all of her vintage skateboards, G&S jerseys, trophies, medals, original Vans shoes, a Tony Alva team hat, her skatepark membership cards, etc. She still had given away some memorabilia, like a classic Flyaway helmet spray-painted gold, but I was impressed by the haul, especially the pristine copies of Skateboarder magazine!

We had a wonderful conversation, and it was such a privilege to meet her!
Please re-visit the post on Pam Judge! And, there’s possibly more detail to come since PJ has pulled together her old journals from those special days.
